This autumn our 2ESO students have discovered what Phrasal Verbs are in a very particular way. We started the activity in class, introducing the concept of Phrasal Verbs (a verb followed by a preposition, the meaning of which is different from its separate parts), then each cooperative team was assigned 4 Phrasal Verbs and the students had to find their definition in a monolingual dictionary and copy it on a big cardboard.
Then we cut the Phrasal Verbs and definitions separately and the teachers hid them in the forest. We divided the class in 4 teams and their mission was to find as many pairs of Phrasal Verbs and definitions as possible. After the search they had to negotiate among teams to see if they could exchange cards to make more matches.
In the end, we went back to class and did the match count to see what team had won. The matched Phrasal Verbs will be the ones to be studied for the Final Term Exam. What a great way to learn and study Phrasal Verbs!
