New Class Pet Initiates Interest for a Variety of Classroom Work

Nuri´s class is excited about its newest member: a green parakeet.  The children have experience in caring for the two turtles it already has in the class, and their interest in this new animal has generated interest in birds.  Some students are developing a project in English to inform their classmates how to care for the bird.  Others, are working on an informative report in their native language about the characteristics of the bird.  The parakeet has generated inspiration for some children´s art work.  Others have written descriptions in English about the bird.  Students have even been observed searching through animal books determined to find a picture of their new pet.  We can only imagine where this spark of interest will take the students.
