Teaching art can get quite messy but this is a sign of creativity. Combining art activities with essential vocabulary and simple instructions allows children to learn English in a fun way. Art promotes imagination and it helps them develop socially and emotionally. The freedom to explore, while scribbling with crayons, coloring with waxes, holding a paintbrush or cutting with scissors, gives children the tools for expressing themselves. Learning about different artists, experimenting various techniques and doing simple art projects also increases motivation to learn English.
In February, we worked on heart shaped drawings. The heart shape is a simple structure or motif that can be easily drawn or colored. We started out with heart stencils, then we drew free-hand hearts and each child put their own emotions into their drawings and tried new techniques. The outcome was fabulous!
