Using objects found at the beach, the class created a beach in a tray. Each item was named and given to the children to pass around the circle so they could feel each object and repeat the new noun.
With the beach stones we did a visual discrimination of size exercise where a child was asked to build a tower from the biggest to the smallest stones. Introducing adjectives big and small and comparative and superlative adjectives, bigger, smaller, biggest, smallest.
We used the classification cards to match the object to the card and to name the missing card when a card was turned over.
With the 5 year olds we used the classifed cards with the word card and then labelled the beach objects on the tray.
