During the first weeks of school, Montessori children are told the five Great Stories in at least one of the following languages: Catalan, Spanish, or English. These stories give a panoramic vision of the universe. They introduce the child to the role of the life of human beings and to the environment in which he lives.
The first story introduces the child to the universe. The second story introduces the child to life as we know it here on earth. The third presents human beings on earth. The fourth and fifth present the two great inventions of the human beings: language and mathematics.
The children further explore the ideas presented in these cosmic tales by reflecting, researching, drawing, manipulating and experimenting.
