Humans wear coats, scarves, hats and gloves to keep warm in the cold winter season, but animals don´t. So what do animals do to keep warm in winter? We all took a nice walk down to the farm on a cold day with our winter coats on, to see what types of coats animals have.
We discovered that:
The animals don´t put on jackets, gloves and woolly hats to keep warm and they don´t go inside houses and sit by the fire. They have to grow their own winter coat and to eat more food to make up for the extra energy they use keeping warm.
The animals that we observed at the school´s farm are:
– The Sheep: Have a nice thick white woolly coat (called Sheepskin) to keep them warm in the winter.
– The Goat: Grows a two layer fur coat, long hairs on top and fluffy cashmere underneath.
– The Chickens: Grow new feathers in the late summer, so that their new feathers will be ready for the winter season to keep them warm.
