The mathematical brain is always at work.  The abstract concept of the passage of time can be made more concrete with the production of timelines.  Timelines can be created in any subject area and aid in the  ordering of events within the reasoning mind.

People need each other.  This is the concept students learn when they work with the interdependency material. Children become aware that goods and services are traded through complex supply chains. Specific jobs are interrelated with others.  Students are introduced to the concept of global economy as products are made available to others.  In the words of the students, «Everybody needs everybody.»

Learning through candle making, scientific observation, and creativity in our Montessori environment.

In our Montessori environment, the children recently embarked on an exciting hands-on project: candle making. This activity emerged from the children’s curiosity and interest in how candles are created, giving them the opportunity to explore science, creativity, planning, and responsibility all at once.

Before beginning, the children carefully planned the activity together. They discussed the materials they would need, organized their workspace, and talked about the importance of safety when working with heat. Wearing gloves and protective glasses, the children approached the experience with great care and responsibility, demonstrating independence and teamwork throughout the process.

As we made the candles, the children explored the fascinating concept of changing states of matter. They observed how solid wax transformed into a liquid when heat was applied, and later watched it cool and harden back into a solid state. Through this concrete experience, scientific concepts became meaningful and memorable, allowing the children to connect theory with real-life observation.

The process also encouraged concentration, patience, and collaboration. Some children carefully measured and prepared materials, while others observed the melting wax and shared their discoveries with friends. There was a wonderful sense of excitement in the environment as the children watched their candles slowly come to life.

Most importantly, the children had a fantastic time. Experiences like these allow them to learn through exploration, curiosity, and purposeful work, all central values within the Montessori philosophy.

We look forward to continuing to follow the children’s interests and creating more meaningful opportunities for hands-on learning in our environment.

Country , City Project

The country, city research project took place in April. The students worked in groups; choosing, comparing and sharing information. They connected by choosing a place based on their interests or connection to heritage and  travel.  They worked together; researching, reading, writing and communicating. Sharing their discoveries and they developed an understanding of geography, cost of living and culture.

Hacemos maquetas de las principales cordilleras, ríos y principales cimas de España.

La unión que nos hace más fuertes.

Este curso hemos trabajado la Unión Europea y hemos construido una maqueta en forma de escalera para representar cómo se fueron uniendo los países.
Hemos aprendido que la unión es muy importante, sobre todo después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, cuando muchos países quedaron muy afectados y decidieron ayudarse entre sí.
También hemos aprendido cosas nuevas sobre cómo funciona la Unión Europea y porqué es importante cooperar. Ahora entendemos que trabajar juntos ayuda a vivir mejor, tanto en clase como en el mundo.

Una larga manualidad de barro.

A partir de la festividad de todos los santos propusimos hacer una bruja voladora hecha con barro. Estiramos el barro y lo doblamos en forma de conos, algo delicado que hizo que muchos tuviéramos que repetir el proceso. Cada alumno/a le dio un toque especial, caras, ropas, expresiones diferentes y detalles. Una vez seco lo llevamos al horno que tienen los alumnos/as de ESO para hornearlo. Entonces lo pintamos con pinturas acrílicas y con bambú le hicimos la escoba.

La cerámica es una actividad que siempre todo el mundo quiere hacer pero que hace falta cierta habilidad y no desanimarse, y seguirlo probando.

Students aged 9 to 12 visited the ruins of Empuries in November where they learned about the Greek influence in Catalonia.  In mixed groups children read various Greek myths in English.  After reading their myths, the students worked together to analyze their stories in order to produce short skits.  After weeks of careful crafting, the students performed their creations for their peers and for the neighboring class of students aged 6 to 9.

Rainy days give us the opportunity to play in other ways.  Instead of going to the playground, children control their play scenarios by choosing from a variety of options.  Table games, art supplies, and building materials are stimulating resources that also help in relaxation.
