Third graders in Gladis’s class have been working on their math skills in English by practicing the Distributive Law. Students learn to set up problems by using parenthesis. They talk about the steps together and review multiplication facts in English. The use of sensorial material enhances mathematical imagination until we slowly move towards using only numbers written on tickets. Students also review and build upon the knowledge of previously studied laws: the Associative and Commutative laws.
The student will be given the experience of using the Distributive Law for multiplication.
The student will display, explain, and justify mathematical ideas and sequences using precise mathematical language in written and oral communication.
The student will select tools, manipulatives, and use number sense to solve problems.
The student will analyze mathematical relationships to connect and communicate mathematical ideas (commutative, associative, distributive laws).
