We place the different parts of a Pine tree on the mat: A small branch of pine needles, a pine cone, a pine nut (with and without the shell), and lastly a piece of pine bark.
We gather with a 5 year old group of children and present the different materials. and we learn to pronounce the new words, and give examples with singular and plural words with the aim of deconstruct all the different parts of tree, to be able to learn vocabulary, and by extension a whole world of connected ideas, starting with life itself.
Furthermore, we talk about the different species of animals we can spot up and around the pine trees, and also how we can use some parts of it for diverse purposes, for instance the pine nuts to make “panallets” the bark to both ornament the garden and nourish its soil, the pine needles which are to make baskets, and the pine cones to do an art project!
